A close friend recently asked me to put some thoughts together on why evolution theory was inconsistent with the pro-life movement. In other words, why is it inconsistent to believe in evolution and be pro-life?

The short answer is: Evolution is a Religion of Death.

They are inconsistent because they are stark opposites.

Why does life have value?

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself that?

What gives life meaning?

What gives life value and meaning is that life was created by God and that means that life was initiated with intention and purpose. We read in Psalm 139:14:

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

and two verses later:

“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

If an unfertilized egg were found on Mars, evolutionists would excitedly proclaim, “We have found LIFE on Mars!”, yet the same egg in a womb on Earth is not given the same dignity.

The thing that gives human life the highest value of all life on Earth is that, unlike animals, man was created in the image of God with a soul and a capacity for eternity that could only exist in the heart of men.

Therefore, all life, but particularly human life, is sacred and should be protected.

The supremacy of man’s worth in creation is exquisitely articulated by one of my mentors, Marvin J. Rosenthal:

“From among all of creation, only Adam and Eve were fashioned in the image and likeness of God. That is, they possessed mind, heart, and will – intellectual capability, emotional capability, and volitional capability. Adam and Eve could think God’s thoughts after Him, respond to God’s love, and do God’s bidding. The potential for an intimate, satisfying, eternal relationship with God, the Potter, was fashioned into the bosom of man, the clay. He was created to proclaim with his mouth and demonstrate with his life the intrinsic, eternal perfections of God and to enjoy Him forever.”

To reject all of this, is, in the words of Scripture is to be “willingly ignorant”, according to Romans 1:18-21

This sanctity for life is the foundation of the pro-life platform.

On the other hand, if humans evolved from lower forms, contrary to the Biblical record, then life has no inherent value or meaning. We are just bits of protoplasm that washed up on the beach. We are cosmic accidents, made of star dust, with no purpose, value or worth.

To profess that humans evolved from lower forms is not only an insult to the dignity of mankind, it is a direct contravention against God’s Word and the plain and observable fact of design. This would be akin to finding a computer on a sandy beach and concluding that it evolved through erosion, thermal expansion and hydrologic sorting.

Evolution is inconsistent with being pro-life because if evolution is true, modern man is the result of millions of years of misfits, suffering and death.

If evolution is true, in order for it to work, one creature must evolve a little better than the rest, while the rest of the population must die in order for the better species to take over the living space. This was Hitler’s practiced worldview entirely.

Evolution is inconsistent with the pro-life position because if the Bible is true, man brought death into the world and therefore death is very bad. If on the other hand evolution is true, then that means that death brought man into the world. If death brought man into the world, then death is very good and in fact the highest virtue. Death is the Hero of the story! After all, without Death, man would not be here, so, we owe it all to Death!

However, we read the truth in Romans 5 that man, in fact, brought death into the world through his disobedience.

“Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—“

Finally, evolution is inconsistent with the pro-life position because if evolution is true, far from life possessing any inherent value or worth, we are actually part of the problem as polluters of the environment and the more of us that we can kill off, the better.

God speaking in Proverbs 8:36 says, “All who hate me love death.”

Evolution is a Religion of Death.
